I’ve been making this chest rub for 3 years now and every winter it becomes part of my children’s nightly routine. We rub it on chest, backs and soles of feet to both relieve common winter ailments but also keep them at bay, as many of the oils increase immunity.
It contains both traditional European and Māori herbs that have been used for centuries to treat chestiness and colds as well as breathing difficulties.
You could liken it to Vicks – except without all the chemicals.
This rub has been made over many weeks – I solar infuse the plants in oil for at least four weeks, adhering to traditional herbal and rongoa protocols and then add essential oils at the end. Because the aroma comes from this long process rather than the addition of high levels of essential oils, it’s gentle enough for young ones.
$15 for a 30g jar / $25 for 80g.
Ingredients – wild harvested kawakawa, kumarahou, kanuka and kauri gum, sweet almond oil, olive oil. Essential oils of lavender, eucalyptus and naiouli.
